Requirements

A good level of education, a deep technical knowledge and considerable experience of the design, development and unit testing of complex, large-scale and multi-user applications, particularly CRM systems – it’s likely that having been a developer, you’re now designing, developing and integrating solutions. Significant experience of application development using at least three of the following tools on Oracle 10g/11g platforms within a commercial environment: PL/SQL; ASP.Net; C#.Net; WPF; WCF; HTML/JavaScript; Design Patterns; or Unix Shell Scripting. Excellent communication and influencing skills – you’ll need to be able to persuade key stakeholders to focus on long-term strategies rather than just quick fix solutions, which means your ability to convey complex technical ideas to a non-technical audience will be vital too. Quality assurance experience in an environment of change – with your passion and tenacity, you’ll ensure that application development is always carried out to the highest standards and meets demanding customer requirements. Well-developed mentoring and coaching skills and extensive experience of working alongside system architects and data management functions to provide technical solutions. Excellent problem solving, supplier liaison, presentation and workshop management skills, and a commitment to monitoring and researching emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.

Job responsibilities

The Architect Designer is responsible for leading the development of large projects up to a million pound involving up to 15 developers. The Architect Designer is also responsible for the strategic direction of an area of our architecture.

As a Principle Architect Designer, you will be responsible for larger multi million pound projects and have a greater degree of complexity managing a larger number of people. As a Principle Architect Designer you will also be responsible for project work as well as architecture delivery.

An important focus for you will be engaging with senior stakeholders in the wider E.ON business to promote the design and architecture of our IT Systems. You’ll also play a key role in the estimation of each project’s scope, size, time and resourcing requirements, establishing any technical team resourcing needs on behalf of the Project Manager and coming up with the most effective solutions.

We’ll be relying on you to make sure that all of these solutions are designed to handle errors, security risks and disaster-recovery. They’ll need to comply with regulatory and legal requirements, be in line with our internal IT strategy, and designed to ensure that system implementations have a minimal impact on end users – you’ll manage the handover of development projects into live support environments.

With around 60 projects underway at any one time, this is a fast-paced and challenging environment – but it’s also supportive and highly rewarding. Not least because you’ll have an opportunity to work on new approaches to transition our systems and because there’ll be so much breadth and depth to the projects you’re working on. Do well, and there will always be new opportunities open to you here.
