Requirements

Degree or HNC/HND qualified or equivalent in a technology, engineering or science related discipline or experience to offset

Extensive knowledge and experience in COTS hardware design and PC technology including networking technology, utilising both Ethernet and serial interfaces

Significant experience with COTS cabinets, cabinet design, wiring schedules, power distribution etc.

Experience of assembly of system consoles, cabinets, internal components & wiring including installation in lab spaces and on ship

Knowledge of current Naval Combat Systems Equipment based on COTS technology across the lifecycle phases including physical aspects

Experience in Product Safety and awareness of Design Certification

Job responsibilities

As a Senior Hardware Engineer, you will be undertaking a defined range of hardware engineering activities associated with the development of the control systems for the Type 26 electro-optic sensors and main gun in line with all relevant processes and quality requirements under the guidance of the Hardware Engineering team leader.

You will be exposed to state of the art, COTS equipment with the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks from design through to installation on ships, seeing tangible results to the work that you do.


Your main responsibilities as a Senior Hardware Engineer will involve:

Developing design specifications under minimal guidance and carrying out design activities in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards

As a senior engineer you will be expected to operate autonomously on many occasions and to lead tasks in areas of particular expertise.

Carrying out technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and preparing reports with suggested recommendations to support the design of improvements

Overseeing hardware related test and acceptance activities and producing material in support of Product Safety and Design Certification activities

Overseeing and supporting the preparation of consoles and cabinets containing COTS equipment to authorised design and installation specifications, for test and acceptance events both in the factory and on board ship
